Medjugorje miracle: A boy who had officially been declared dead came back to life!

Dominik Juros, a young sixteen-year-old Slovak born into a Catholic family from the village of Hraň, traveled to Medjugorje in 2019 for the Youth Festival together with peers from his area. During the several months leading up to his arrival in Medjugorje, Dominik was going through an inner rebellion that mostly revolved around faith.
He no longer wanted to serve at Mass as an altar boy. He refused to pray together with his parents. And although the members of his group had signed up for the pilgrimage together, they were not actually interested either in the Youth Festival or in God. They behaved like tourists on vacation.

On August 3, there was terrible heat in Medjugorje. Instead of following the festival program, the group decided to go swimming at the nearby Kravice waterfalls together with their guide, Janko. Dominik slipped into the icy water and sank about three meters deep. He managed to come back up to the surface several times, but no one realized he was drowning. The people around him thought he was just playing some kind of game. Ten minutes later, Janko became worried because he could no longer see him! So he swam to the place where he had last spotted him.
With the help of several people, he pulled Dominik out of the water. But his heart was no longer beating. After 15–20 minutes of resuscitation, it began beating again, but on the way to the hospital in Mostar, it stopped once more. His lungs also stopped working. At the hospital, Dominik was placed in an induced coma, and machines took over the vital functions of his body.
The next day, his parents suddenly traveled from Slovakia to Mostar. After hearing what had happened, all the young people gathered at the Festival began to pray fervently for him, and that beautiful chain of prayer continued day and night! Even Dominik’s fellow travelers from the bus, suddenly seized by the fear of God, began to pray. They all went to confession and attended Mass with great devotion.
On August 5, surrounded by his family and many people praying for him, Dominik began to show unexpected signs. Although he was unconscious, he would squeeze his mother’s hand or cry. He woke up on August 7, and all his organs came back to life. His first reaction was to cry and ask his parents for forgiveness. He grabbed his mother’s hand and asked her to pray with him — and to pray a lot. He wanted to confess his sins, so they asked for a priest to come. After that, he was transferred to a hospital in Slovakia, where he began to walk and speak normally. Four weeks later, he returned to school. His Slovak doctor stated that Dominik’s recovery was shocking, considering everything he had gone through.
Dominik shared some interesting aspects of his experience. For example, even though he was unconscious when they pulled him out of the water, he saw his parents in Slovakia sitting in front of the television, and he knew what they were doing and where they were going to go.
On August 8, according to those who were present, and also according to Dominik himself, he became hypersensitive. He felt inner struggles and had unusual perceptions.
According to Dominik, while he was between life and death, he felt that he was being threatened by “dark figures” present in the hospital. Some were standing by the door, while others were causing chaos in the hospital room by accusing him. These figures were constantly trying to prevent his mother from praying at his bedside. Dominik’s face lit up when he felt the presence of a person full of light, peace, and joy, whom he believes was the Mother of God. When someone entered the room carrying water, he knew it was holy water and thought: “Oh, holy water! It will help me now!” He stated that he was able to perceive the prayers of his family as calming, positive, helpful, and full of life.
Dominik also saw purgatory. There he saw two young men from a neighboring town suffering. He saw that they had set a car on fire and later died in a car accident. He saw angels — radiant beings with beautiful faces, dressed in white. He also said that he looked at Jesus face to face, and that Jesus has the most beautiful eyes. When his family was praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy beside his hospital bed, he asked them: “Do you feel that beautiful fragrance?” “What fragrance?” his mother asked. “The Blood of Jesus! It has a beautiful fragrance!” he replied.
There are many more details from this story that cannot be presented here, but it is important to know that Dominik’s mother consecrated him to Our Lady at the time of his conception.
Dominik often repeated that we should love one another and forgive one another, and that love is the most important thing in life. He constantly asks the members of his family to treat one another with great love, even in the smallest things, and to always forgive and have no enemies. Since he had briefly experienced the sweet taste of heaven, Dominik regretted that the medical team had saved his life!
We know that it is normal for serious brain damage to occur when a person spends several minutes underwater without oxygen. But in Dominik’s case, only God knows whether, medically speaking, this was a miracle. That is of little importance! What is beautiful in this case is that it happened while 40,000 young people present at the Festival were praying in Medjugorje.
The Lord used this teenager, who was going through a crisis, to bring all his friends to their knees — those present in Medjugorje and those in Slovakia — to encourage them to go to confession and to bring their hearts back to God. Moreover, for some of those young people who had placed worldly things first in their lives and thought they could live without God, Dominik’s experience revealed another world, different values, and reminded them of Jesus’ most important commandment: “Love one another as I have loved you!”
Dominik does not remember everything, but the result of grace is more than evident in his life. He has become a young man who today prays deeply, lives his faith fervently, and joyfully joins his parents and family in prayer. He shows great devotion to the Cross of Jesus and to Our Lady. All his relatives are grateful for the grace the Lord has shown him. Even his grandfather, once a stubborn opponent of Medjugorje, now wants to come here. Magnificent!
