Visionary Mirjana: The first two secrets are serious, but not like what will follow…
The Medjugorje secrets have been stirring great interest among believers around the world for decades. Especially powerful are the words of visionary Mirjana, who, in a 1985 interview, spoke about the first secret and what it would cause among people.
According to her words, the first secret will not be pleasant, but it will prompt many to reflect on themselves, the world, and God. Mirjana especially emphasized the need for conversion, prayer, fasting, and preparation.
“This will last for some time. It will be seen; the world needs to be shaken a little. Because of this, the world will stop and think.” Apart from Vicka, who said that her first secret is connected to the Medjugorje church, Mirjana was the only visionary who alluded to what would happen when the secrets of the Medjugorje apparitions begin to unfold.
On October 26, 1985, Mirjana gave her clearest interview about the beginning of the 10 secrets. The day before, the Virgin Mary had shown her the visible consequences of the first secret. The 1985 interview is a very important document because the vision was still fresh and clear in Mirjana’s memory, and because the interview was conducted by Fr. Petar Ljubičić, who had already been chosen as the priest who would reveal the secrets to the world.
Mirjana said that the first secret “will not be a pleasant thing.” It will be “something that people will hear about for a long time.” “The first secret will spark a great deal of discussion about itself,” and therefore it will not need much explanation.
The people of Medjugorje will “immediately know that it is connected with the secrets.” It will be something, Mirjana told Fr. Petar Ljubičić, “that everyone, everywhere, will hear about immediately.” But that does not mean people will rush to the place where the first secret has just taken place, Mirjana also said: “Surely no one wants to see catastrophes, anguish, and misfortune. I do not think such things attract people at all. Why should people go and see such things? It is one thing to see a sign, and another to see suffering or a catastrophe. Who, for example, would go to Italy to see a dam collapse?”
The first secret will prompt people to think about God. On October 25, 1985, Mirjana saw the first secrets as images projected on slides: “This shook me more than anything else. That was, of course, because of seeing the first secret. If people saw the first secret as it was shown to me yesterday, everyone would surely be shocked enough to look at themselves and everything around them in a completely new way. Now I know things that are not particularly pleasant. I believe that if everyone knew the same things, each of these people would be shocked and would look at our world in a completely different light,” Mirjana told Fr. Petar Ljubičić the day after the vision. “This will last for some time. It will be seen; the world needs to be shaken a little. Because of this, the world will stop and think.”
During the 1985 interview, Fr. Petar Ljubičić also asked Mirjana whether someone might say that the event of the first secret was simply a natural phenomenon. In answering, Mirjana also spoke about her second secret: “Perhaps some convinced unbelievers, after the first and the second, might say something like that,” Mirjana replied. The first two secrets will not be catastrophes in the literal sense, the visionary also revealed: “It will be nothing as great as what will follow. These first two secrets are not so serious and difficult. What I mean is, yes, they are serious, but not as much as the others. (…)”
The secrets that follow are truly unpleasant. I would be happy if everyone finally understood that. I cannot tell them much more, but when they begin to be fulfilled, then it will be too late.”
Mirjana: Convert, pray, fast.!
In 1985, as today, Mirjana called people to prepare for the beginning of the secrets. The permanent sign of the third secret will remain on the hill of apparitions, Podbrdo, where the statue of Our Lady stands. Mirjana said to Fr. Petar Ljubičić: “The Blessed Virgin told me that it is necessary to pray a great deal until the first secret is revealed. But besides that, it is necessary to make as many sacrifices as possible, to help others as much as we are able, and to fast, especially now before the first secret. She said that we are obliged to prepare ourselves.”
“She not only asks, but begs everyone to convert, to pray, and to fast. Those who do not believe have no idea what awaits them, and because of that, as their Mother, she is in great sorrow for them,” Mirjana said, referring to people who do not believe and therefore live a life without God. “It is not enough just to pray. It is not enough simply and quickly to say a few prayers so that we can say we have prayed and fulfilled our duty. What Our Lady wants from us is to pray from the depths of the soul; it is a dialogue with God.”
