Many speak about them, and many have tried to find out what they are, but it seems that the visionaries are unable to reveal them even when, under hypnosis, they answer questions while connected to a lie detector.

“‘A secret is a secret,’ and the ten secrets that Our Lady entrusted to the visionaries in Medjugorje will be revealed when the time comes, through the Franciscan friar Fr. Petar Ljubičić. He will learn the content of each individual secret ten days before the appointed event, and he will spend that time in fasting and prayer. The secrets are meant to be a great call to conversion.”

During 34 years of apparitions in Medjugorje, the visionaries received certain secrets from the Blessed Virgin Mary concerning the future and the threats hanging over the world.

Three of the six visionaries have already received all ten secrets: Mirjana, Jakov, and Ivanka. They have never discussed the secrets among themselves, and therefore it cannot be stated with certainty that all the secrets they received are completely identical.

Mirjana was the first to receive the tenth and final secret, on Christmas Day in 1982. On that occasion, Our Lady said to her:

“From now on, you will no longer see me, except on your birthday and in difficult circumstances when it is necessary. Return to the faith, as everyone else should.”

It was very difficult for Mirjana. She once said:

“I thought I would fall into depression.”

Still, thanks to intense prayer, she soon adapted to the new circumstances.

Fr. Petar Ljubičić will reveal the secrets

During an interview for Radio Maria, while answering a question about the secrets posed to her by Father Livio, Mirjana said:

“I had to choose a priest to whom I would reveal them, and I chose the Franciscan friar Fr. Petar Ljubičić. Ten days before something happens, I must tell him what will happen and where it will happen.

We must spend seven days in fasting and prayer, and three days before the event he will have to announce it to everyone. He will not be able to choose whether to say something or not. He has accepted that he will tell everything to everyone three days before, and then it will be seen that it is the Lord’s work.

Our Lady always says: “Do not speak about the secrets, but pray. Whoever feels me as a Mother and God as Father has nothing to fear.”

We all always speak about what will happen in the future, but who among us can say that they will be alive tomorrow? No one!

Our Lady teaches us not to worry about the future, but to be ready at every moment to go and meet the Lord, and not to waste time speaking about the secrets and similar things.”

Mirjana also joked at Fr. Petar’s expense:

“Fr. Petar, who is now in Germany, jokes with me when he comes to Medjugorje and says: ‘Come to confession and tell me at least one secret now.’”

“We can change only ourselves.”

Mirjana continued:

“Everyone is curious, but it is necessary to understand what is truly important. What matters is that we are ready at every moment to go to the Lord.

Everything that will happen, if it happens, will be the Lord’s will, and we cannot change it. We can change only ourselves.

We spread Our Lady’s messages and speak what the Lord wants us to say to people. But the secrets are secrets, and we visionaries never speak about them among ourselves.”

Mirjana emphasized in this conversation, as she had on many other occasions, that curiosity mixed with fear of apocalyptic events often causes people to be more interested in the secrets than in Our Lady’s messages.

The six visionaries have spoken very little about the content of the secrets. They have revealed only a few general details.

The Third Secret: a permanent sign on the Apparition Hill

Something is known about the third and seventh secrets based on the statements of Mirjana and Vicka.

Speaking about the third secret, Mirjana said:

IMPORTANT: Concise but thorough written instructions are preferred for software questions: enumerate steps when useful, include exact commands/paths where relevant, and explain expected outcomes/errors. Avoid overly verbose background.

“It will be a beautiful sign! It will be clearly visible and will not be able to be made by human hands. It will be something from the Lord that will remain permanently.”

Mirjana added that she knows the day when the sign will appear, but she has never wanted to reveal the date in advance.

The Seventh Secret was partially mitigated through prayer and fasting

“I asked Our Lady whether it was possible for at least part of the seventh secret to be changed. She answered that we must pray.

We prayed a great deal, and she said that one part had been changed, but that now it can no longer be changed, because it is the Lord’s will that the rest be fulfilled.

It can no longer be mitigated. It is not possible for it to be completely abolished. One part has been removed, and that is all.

This is what Our Lady told me. I no longer ask such questions, because it is not possible. It is the Lord’s will, and it must be fulfilled.

“I do not wish to be too precise, because secrets are secrets. I can only say that they concern the world. When Our Lady wants it, I will say everything.”

Mirjana, like the other visionaries, always showed great restraint whenever she was asked to reveal the content of the secrets in advance.

When Father Livio asked her for more details, she answered firmly:

“I cannot say anything more. If we wish to continue speaking about important things, that is, about Our Lady and her messages, I will gladly answer. But I do not speak about the secrets, because they are secrets.”

Everyone tried to find out something, from priests to the communists, especially from Jakov, who was only nine and a half years old at the time. But they never succeeded in drawing anything out of him or finding out anything at all.

Therefore, let us leave that topic aside. If something happens, it will be the Lord’s will. What is important is that our soul be ready to meet the Lord. Then we will not have to worry about the future or about anything else.”

Mirjana strongly emphasized that it is more important to have a ready and prepared soul than to live in fear of the secrets.

The lie detector and hypnosis did not reveal the secrets

In a more recent interview from 2013, Mirjana was asked why people would learn the secrets three days before the events.

She answered with a certain displeasure:

“Secrets right away! Secrets are secrets. I think that it is not we who keep them, but God who keeps them.

“I will take myself as an example. The last doctors who examined me hypnotized me. Under hypnosis, they took me back to the time of the first apparitions, and I was also connected to a lie detector.

That story is very long, but in short: while I was connected to the lie detector, they could find out everything they wanted, but nothing about the secrets.

Therefore, I believe that God keeps the secrets. We will understand the meaning of why they will be revealed three days earlier when God wants us to.”

“A Mother has not come to destroy her children.”

Mirjana then added:

“I want to say one thing: do not believe those who want to frighten you.

A Mother has not come down to earth in order to destroy her children. Our Lady has come down to earth to save her children. How can the Heart of our Mother triumph if her children are destroyed?

Therefore, true faith is not a faith that comes from fear. True faith is the one that comes from love.

“As a sister, I advise you: place yourselves in Our Lady’s hands and do not worry about anything, because the Mother will take care of everything.”

Fr. Petar Ljubičić: A great honor and a great responsibility

The magazine “Medjugorje” published an interview with Fr. Petar Ljubičić in 2007. At that time, he said:

“When one evening, about 25 years ago in Medjugorje, I heard that Mirjana had chosen me to reveal the secrets, at first I thought it was a joke.

I said that it was a very serious matter and that it should not be joked about. But afterward, I continued thinking about it.

I asked myself whether it could truly be true. It felt unusual to think about why Mirjana would choose me in particular. I considered it a great honor, but also a great responsibility.

I cannot explain why, but I was not afraid.

When I later met Mirjana, she asked me: “Do you know that, when the time comes, you will be the one to reveal the secrets?”

The thought passed through my mind that this was not possible. It is difficult for me to find the right words to describe the feelings I experienced at that moment. I only know that I was overcome by a feeling of happiness and certainty.

The secrets concern a specific place and time.

Fr. Petar continued:

“The secrets are, as the word itself says, secrets. We know nothing about their content.

“The secrets, as the word itself says, are secrets. We know nothing about their content. The only thing that can be said is that the secrets concern events that will take place in a specific place and at a specific time. But what exactly will happen, we do not know.”

Therefore, we should not speculate about it. We should understand the existence of these secrets as a help to take more seriously the life that God has given us, and to use our time for our own salvation and the salvation of our soul.

That means living in such a way that at every moment we can give an account before God.

If we live in this way, we are always ready to meet God and to stand before Him. Therefore, we should not be afraid of the revealing of the secrets, nor constantly ask ourselves when they will happen.

Seven days of fasting and prayer

Fr. Petar also explained what the revealing of the first secret will look like:

“I will read the first secret and learn what will happen ten days later. My task then will be to pray and fast for seven days.

After those seven days, I will be able to reveal that information. I will have to say what it is about and where it will happen.”

According to him, Mirjana told him that the first two secrets concern Medjugorje:

“They contain an admonition and an important warning intended for the faithful of the parish of Medjugorje.

“If the first two secrets come true, everyone will know that the visionaries were telling the truth, and we will have to acknowledge the apparitions as authentic.”

The Third Secret will be a sign of conversion

Fr. Petar said:

“The third secret will be a visible sign on the Apparition Hill, on Podbrdo.”

“All those who believed in the apparitions and directed their lives according to them will be very joyful. But for all people, that sign will be a call to conversion.”

We must not forget that this is a time of conversion and prayer. This is a time of spiritual purification and a time of joyful choosing of God.

Therefore, I wish to emphasize once again that we must not wait to convert. If, for example, we were to wait for the sign to appear first, it could be too late for us.

Fr. Petar believes that the revealing of the secrets will help people become more serious and more aware of their responsibilities:

“There will certainly be extraordinary and great signs, as well as great conversions.”

“All the conversions and all the physical and spiritual healings that have taken place up to this day are proof that Heaven has opened over Medjugorje and that the Queen of Peace has come to us.”

“The revealing of the secrets will be a great consolation and a great joy for everyone. Those who believed and tried to live according to the Gospel of Jesus Christ will be especially happy.”

The first three secrets will be warnings

The visionaries carefully guard the secrets. They have revealed only the general meaning of some of them.

The first three secrets will be three warnings, as a call to conversion. The third secret will be a visible sign on the Apparition Hill, a sign intended for the conversion of those who do not believe.

The remaining seven secrets are of a more serious nature, especially the last four. Vicka cried when she received the ninth secret, and Mirjana cried when she received the tenth secret.

The seventh secret was mitigated through prayers and fasting.

“Do not wait for the sign in order to satisfy your curiosity.”

Gospa herself also spoke about the secrets in some of her messages.

In the message of December 23, 1982, she said:

“All the secrets that I have entrusted will be fulfilled, and the visible sign will also be manifested. But do not wait for that sign in order to satisfy your curiosity.”

“This time before the visible sign is a time of grace for believers. Therefore, convert and deepen your faith!”

“When the visible sign appears, for many it will already be too late.”

Our Lady, in her messages, does not speak about the end of the world, terrible catastrophes, great trials, or tragic events. In her words, one call is constantly repeated: our conversion.

This must be a strong, real, and immediate conversion because, according to Our Lady’s words:

“Even when I leave the sign on the hill that I have promised you, many will not believe.”

Then for many it will already be too late.
